Studio News

The studio is freezing and apart from a working on a few small pieces plus doing a a bit of screen printing (that's the bird images below) painting has taken a back seat whilst I do non arty but essential things such as accounts, as well as preparing for 2021 and videoing my processes to share at a later date. I'm developing a couple of new workshops focusing on sketchbook work - it's really exciting so I'll update you once the details are finalised. Also I'm sketching lots in preparation for the TAKE 2 exhibition which is taking place in Bath in March - keep your fingers crossed that we don't have a 3rd lockdown. My sketches are the root of all my paintings so I find it a vital stage of my process.

I've also been inspired by the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year and has a bash at a self portrait just using indigo and white. Quite enjoyed it but I'm not ready to change my painting subject just yet!

The New Horizons exhibition with Gaynor Leverett-Jaques has finished - we had some incredible feedback but if you missed it you can have a look via the link below until the end of the year.

The Bath Humbug Art Fair has just finished - so good to be able to showcase my work. Visitor numbers were down but that was to be expected. Looking forward to the 2021 event and keeping my fingers crossed that the Bath Christmas market will be on.

Finally I'd like to say a huge thanks for your support this year. If you'd like to keep up to date with what's going on in the studio, studio offers and pre view invitations to 2021 events then do subscribe to my Studio News which is emailed monthly. The 'Studio News' is going to undergo a bit of a facelift with more information about my processes and the inspiration behind my paintings. The link to subscribe is below.

Have a lovely Christmas and all the best for 2021.
Best wishes
Karen

Workshops

I run workshops for members of the public at my studio and other venues throughout the year. I also work with schools and various organisations.
Due to covid 19, all workshops for 2020 have been postponed. Please get in touch if you would like more information about upcoming workshops.

I am now working towards running socially distanced workshops in line with restrictions; update to follow.

"Really enjoyed Karen George's Acrylic Transfer Print workshop at High Littleton today. Such a simple yet effective technique. One I'll definitely be doing more of. Thank you, Karen."

Sketchbooks

I love sketchbooks - working in them and looking at other artists' sketchbooks! Such an inspiration.
I always take a sketchbook away on holiday and use it to keep a visual diary - years on I still remember where I was sitting when I was doing the sketch. There must be something about being more aware and actually internalising that moment in time. I'd recommend everyone, artist or not, to take the time to stop and capture a memory - so much more personal than a quick photograph.
I also use them to explore ideas whether it's composition, colour and or trying out new materials. I have recently acquired a concertina sketchbook which allows for work to extend across numerous pages and for ideas to spill over from page to page.
