Thinking about a commission?
I enjoy working with clients to produce a particular piece of artwork so I'm happy to take on a limited number of commissions throughout the year. Commissions are a wonderful opportunity to get a piece of work that really means something to you but where do you start? Thankfully commissioning artwork is really easy - here's how I work with my clients so that they end up with a piece of art that they will love forever.

My commission process
Step 1; Initial enquiry
I respond to your enquiry by email to establish factors such as size of piece, whether you want me to include for a sketching session and your timescale. Once I have this information I'll be able to give you a quote for the commission and outline the next steps in the process should you agree to proceed.
Step 2; We meet up.
Once you have decided that you'd like to commission a piece we arrange a time to meet* to discuss in more depth what you are after; colours, the 'feel' of the piece, composition options.
Following this meeting I will confirm to you a summary of what has been agreed and ask if you'd like me to proceed. At this point you would pay a deposit.

Step 3; I start painting!
During the process I will keep you updated with how the painting is coming along with progress photographs; this also gives you a chance to flag up any problems eg 'too moody' or 'not moody enough', 'I'd like more blue in it' etc.
Step 4; Final viewing
You will be able to view the painting in the flesh when it is nearing completion; it gives you the opportunity to let me know if there are any minor adjustments to be made before I varnish the piece. At this point you can also discuss whether you would like me to organise framing for you and how you wish the painting to be delivered.
Step 5; And it's finished.
The balance of payment is due and the painting is delivered.
How much does it cost and do I need to pay anything upfront?
The price really depends upon the size and amount of work involved.
Prices start at £150 for a 20 x 20cm sized piece. A deposit of 30% is required.
How long does it take?
This really depends on the size of the piece but I tend to allow 6 - 8 weeks from payment of the deposit.
What are the sketching sessions?
I also offer to visit and sketch a location if it is within a 1 - 2 hours drive of my studio; the sketches allow me to get a better feel for the atmosphere of the location and this will be better reflected in the painting. The sketches are given to the client at the end of the commission.
Will it be framed?
The painting commission is purely for the artwork. However I am able to organise framing on your behalf using a local company.
Does the price include delivery?
No the price doesn't include post and packaging but I am able to deliver locally free of charge. You are also welcome to come to the studio to collect your painting.
What if I don't like the painting at the end?
This is highly unlikely as you'll have several opportunities throughout the process to flag up any problems. However if it really isn't floating your boat I will not force the painting on you. The deposit can be used towards payment of other work or another commission.
