About me

Picture
I am an artist based in High Littleton, near Bath. I started painting in 2009 after almost 20 years working as a Landscape Architect.  The change in career was a result of the development and launch of the innovative 'BuggySail' sunshade which gave me the freedom to paint and a timely 'Experimental Painting' workshop which further encouraged me to take the leap into the life of an artist. I'm so glad I jumped!

I work predominantly in acrylic and mixed media and am best known for my broadly abstract landscapes and seascapes with atmospheric skies. I work mainly from the studio taking inspiration for colour and subject from a series of sketches and watercolour studies produced outside on holidays.

In 2013 I was instrumental in setting up the Cam Valley Arts Trail which supports local artists and promotes the arts locally within the Cam Valley; I continue to chair this group today.

Art and design have always been at the centre of whatever I do - the thread that links all my life choices and that remains the case today. Back in 2007 when I set up Trenjory Designs I was more focused on 'design' rather than 'art' and had no idea that one of my early design projects, the innovative BuggySail sunshade, would allow me to make my 'art' my career. In recent years I have been fortunate to be able to enjoy painting and creating, learning and sharing  - such an enjoyable 'JOB'. I love it!

Artwork

I enjoy experimenting and learning as I explore what can be achieved with the acrylic paint and how it combines with other materials and  mediums. I tend to work on several pieces at a time which gives me the freedom to allow paintings to emerge as I layer paint over a gesso base and scratch/sand/rub back to reveal lost layers without overworking them.
Sketching forms the foundation of all my work; it allows me to embed a place in my mind. Looking back at the sketches take me right back to the time I did the sketch which in turn enables me to paint from within.
Using a limited palette,  I work my sketches and ideas for composition up in a semi abstract, instinctive way letting the painting evolve. I love painting and really enjoy the process.
